Project Gutenberg, Credo Reference & Other Free eBooks

Project Gutenberg is a collection of over 36,000 free eBooks, you can download to your computer, Kindle, Nook, Android, iOS or other portable devices.  Founded in 1971, Project Gutenberg is the first eBook collection, and includes classic fiction and non-fiction titles in the public domain from a variety of popular genres.  The eBooks are also avaliable in various languages, including French, German, Portuguese, Dutch and Chinese.  For additional how-to help, click here.


Credo Reference provides reference and non-fiction eBooks, along with topic pages.  It's an easy-to-use tool for research projects and homework. Search in hundreds of encyclopedias, dictionaries, thesauri, quotations, and subject-specific titles, as well as 200,000+ images and audio files, and nearly 200 videos.  You can also get citations, print or email information, create crossword puzzles, get pronunciations and find out about holidays and festivals around the world.


Open eBooks is an app containing thousands of popular and award-winning titles that are free for children from in-need households. These eBooks can be read without checkouts or holds. Children from in-need families can access these eBooks, which include some of the most popular works of the present and past, using the Open eBooks app and read as many as they like without incurring any costs. Free eBooks

Epubbooks :Holdings include titles for adults, teens, and children. Searchable by title, author and genre. :Find both public domain books and original books by new/current authors. 

Google Books :For public domain books go to advanced search and select full view only.

International Children's Digital Library :Multicultural digital library of children's books.

Kindle Free Ebooks :Information regarding free Amazon Books along with other free ebook sources.  :There are more than 29,000 eBooks available for Kindle, Nook, iPad and most other eReaders. Browse by popular title, recommendations, reviews, covers, or recent additions. 

Nook Free Ebooks :Free ebooks for nook owners and nook app users. 

OpenCulture : A collection that features free e-books, mostly classics, that you can read on your computer, smart phone, or Kindle. Available ebooks includes great works of fiction, non-fiction and poetry.

Textbook Revolution :A student-run site dedicated to increasing the use of free educational material. Books are PDF files while others are viewable online as e-books.

Worldbook:  Our Worldbook database e-book center provides free e-books on many of the classics, among other free e-books.  Library Card Required outside of the library.

Kids eBooks

OMNI Kids eReading Room

Visit the OMNI digital collection, where you can search exclusively for juvenile materials, including eBooks and eAudiobooks.  You can search by subject, collections, newly added titles and more.  There is Lexile number searching available as well.  Checkouts and Account information is the same as the regular OMNI site, but this collection shows you children's titles only.


Find thousands of digital movies, music albums, eBooks and eAudiobooks and comics through Hoopla, all you need is a library card!  You can download the free Hoopla app on your mobile devices and tablets, to stream or checkout materials.  Hoopla also has a kids mode.  On the settings page of your account, there is an option to choose kids mode.  When this is turned on, you will only see kid-appropriate content in your browse and search results. 

TumbleBooks are animated, talking picture books. TumbleBooks are created by taking existing picture books, adding animation, sound, music and narration to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you*. There are even books in French and Spanish! In addition to the books, the collection includes:

    TumblePuzzles: Educational games and puzzles
    TumbleResources: Teacher resources

All you need is the Flash 6 plug-in which is preloaded on all library computers and most home computers. If you are unable to view the TumbleBooks at home, you can download the plug-in for FREE here.

* If you want to listen to sound, music and narration in the library, you must bring your own headphones, or you can purchase headphones or earbuds for $2 at either library location.

Read Kids Books Online!  TrueFlix allows students to read Scholastic science and social studies books online, including content on the human body, space and  ancient civilizations.  All of the titles are supported with related content featuring videos, audio, images, text, lesson plans and  activity centers.  TrueFlix can be used in and outside the library, and all you need is your library card and pin number (the last 4 digits of your library card).
