Library Seeking Board Member

The Three Rivers Public Library District is seeking interested district residents to be appointed for a Library Board of Trustee position. The Board is comprised of seven members who each serve six-year terms.  The appointee for the current term will serve through May 2023.  Applications will be accepted through Friday, August 27, 2021.

What does the Library Board do?

The Board of Trustees is the governing body of the Library. While the Board does not manage the library, it does:

• Create a long-range plan for Library services and programs

• Oversee Library funds

• Sets policies for the Library

• Hire and evaluate the Library Director

• Advocate for the Library

 
What are the Duties and Responsibilities of Library Trustees?

1. Attend monthly Board meetings and periodic committee meetings.

2. Represent the community and its needs and interests as related to the library’s mission.

3. Set written policies to govern the operation of the library.

4. Establish rules and regulations governing the use of the library upon the recommendation of the Library Director.

5. Secure adequate funds from the appropriating agency, and from new sources if necessary, to carry out the library's programs.

6. Set the annual budget.

7. Advocate for the library’s needs at the local and state level. Support state and national library legislation which benefits library service.

By Illinois law, Trustees serve without compensation.

Board of Trustees

The Library is governed by an elected Board of Trustees.  The Board sets the mission of the library, secures adequate funding to accomplish the library's mission, determines library policies, hires the executive director, and advocates for the library. The Board consists of seven Trustees and has two committees:  Finance and Building & Grounds.  A Library Trustee must be a resident of the library district and serves a term of office of six years. They serve without compensation.

The Board of Trustees meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 6:00pm at the Minooka Branch, excluding December.  All meetings are open to the public.
